Austrian Ambassador Dr. Christian Prosl will honor UCF Professor Bruce Pauley with theAustrian Cross of Honor and Tour Tupperware Headquarters with CEO Rick Goings this Week
Orlando, FL – Austrian Ambassador to the U.S., Dr. Christian Prosl will travel to Central Florida this week honor local resident and UCF Professor Bruce Pauley with the Austrian Cross of Honor as well as meet Tupperware CEO Rick Goings for a tour of the Tupperware Headquarters.
During a ceremony on April 6, 2010, at the residence of the Austrian Honorary Consul in Orlando, Florida, Ambassador Christian Prosl will present Professor Bruce Pauley, Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Central Florida, with the Austrian Cross of Honor for Scholarship and Art, First Class. As one of the most distinguished American scholars on Austrian history, Professor Pauley has been recommended by several renowned scholars for this highly esteemed honor awarded from The Federal President of the Republic of Austria. In addition, Ambassador Prosol will visit the UCF campus to speak with honor students on Wednesday, April 7th.
On Friday, April 9th, Ambassador Prosl will also take time to meet with Tupperware Chairman and CEO Rick Goings followed by a tour of the Tupperware Headquarters here in Central Florida as Tupperware looks to continue strengthening its relationship with Austria and its residents both locally and abroad.
“So many aspects of the Tupperware business have been influenced by Austria and its culture — our quality products, our production capabilities, but most importantly the spirit of personal development. That is why so many of our executives are either from Austria or of Austrian heritage … including me,” said Rick Goings, Chairman and CEO of Tupperware.
Austria is not only one of the most successful countries for Tupperware, but was also one of the first countries outside the US where Tupperware started its overseas business. Over forty years ago Tupperware picked a handful of countries where the company believed that the value and benefit of Tupperware would be best understood by identifying countries with a strong tradition to a local cuisine, to homemade food, an appreciation for quality, as well as an anticipated entrepreneurship among its people to understand the power of direct selling. This year Tupperware celebrates its successful cross-cultural relationship with their 45th anniversary in Austria and a record number of close to 5,000 consultants throughout the country.
“Because of Austria’s position globally as the third wealthiest country in Europe and the eighth worldwide, it makes it vital on a local level to support the facilitation of meetings such as the one between Ambassador Prosl and Tupperware CEO Rick Goings,” said Toby Unwin, Austrian Honorary Consul for Orlando. “It will be fulfilling to see that relationship continue to grow and enhance both communities in the years to come.”
State and local officials also recognize the importance of fostering a strong local relationship with Austria as Governor Crist wrote Ambassador Prosl a welcome letter highlighting “Florida is fortunate to have many Austrians and citizens of Austrian decent who call the Sunshine State home. These men and women have greatly contributed to our economy, culture, and diversity of our state. Austrians have been active in every facet of the American and Florida experience by helping with civic duties, supporting government service, science, education, art, business and industry”. Mayor Crotty issued a Proclamation citing April 6, 2010 as “Austrian Day” and Mayor Dyer issued a Proclamation citing April 6, 2010 as “His Excellency Dr. Christian Prosl Day”.
